Buying and selling safely
The vast majority of exchanges go fine. The few scam attempts almost always follow the same scripts: knowing them is enough to shut them down.
Stay on the platform
Someone pushing to move to WhatsApp or email in the first message is usually trying to get around the safeguards. okazio messaging flags known manoeuvres and keeps a record of what was said.
TWINT never asks for a code
No payment service sends you an SMS code to pass on to a buyer. A «confirmation code» you are asked to forward is always an attempt to take over your account. And you never scan a QR code or enter a five-digit code to receive money: these codes are for paying.
Beware of overpayment
A buyer who sends more than the price and asks for the difference back is setting up a payment reversal. You refund from your own account, and the money you received then disappears.
Fake couriers
A «delivery service» demanding fees before shipping, with a link to an unfamiliar site, does not exist. In Switzerland, handing the item over in person remains the safest route.
Meet in a public place
Station, shopping centre, monitored car park. In daylight. For anything bulky, bring someone along. An honest seller understands these precautions.
Report it
Every listing and every conversation carries a report button. A report gets read, and it protects the next person.
